Secretary of State for the National Community Abroad Chairs a Coordination Meeting in Brussels with Heads of Consular Posts in Northern Europe

As part of his working visit to the Kingdom of Belgium, which began on 9 June 2026, the Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of the National Community Abroad, Mr. Sofiane Chaib, chaired today, at the headquarters of the Embassy of Algeria in Brussels, a working and coordination meeting with the heads of consular posts in the Northern Europe region.

This meeting is part of the ongoing periodic and guidance sessions held by the Secretary of State with the heads of diplomatic missions and consular posts abroad, in implementation of the directives of the country's highest authorities aimed at improving the quality of services provided to members of the national community abroad, strengthening mechanisms for addressing their concerns, and meeting their expectations.

The meeting focused on reviewing the outcomes of consular activities and assessing the progress made in implementing programmes and projects aimed at modernising and upgrading consular services, particularly through the expansion of digitalisation, the simplification of administrative procedures, and the improvement of reception and assistance services for citizens.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to assess the implementation of measures introduced for the benefit of the national community residing in Northern European countries, particularly those related to strengthening local outreach, intensifying communication initiatives, and developing listening and support mechanisms, thereby reinforcing the ties between the community and their homeland while enhancing their contribution to the various national development efforts.

The meeting also addressed the ongoing preparations for the summer season. On this occasion, the Secretary of State issued instructions to strengthen information and guidance mechanisms for members of the national community and to enhance coordination among all stakeholders to ensure the best possible conditions for welcoming and assisting them during their travel to Algeria.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Secretary of State commended the efforts made by the heads and staff of the consular posts and called on them to continue working with a spirit of responsibility and dedication to provide better services to the national community abroad and to implement the directives of the country's highest authorities in this field.
